By eight the lawn already had a quiet queue. The kangaroos greeted the clover, nodded to the bench, and only then tucked one good morning into a pouch. No extras. The next animal waited until the pocket had finished its tiny timetable.
We asked at the kiosk down the street. "I thought they were just standing in the shade," said a woman with a paper bag of apples. "Then a kangaroo nodded to the bench, and the clover leaned in as if it had been holding a seat."
The park keeper left a note on the grass: guests may watch, but please do not peek before tea. By noon the lawn already knew one polite way to keep a hello warm.
